Contact Dance Company was founded in 1998 by Francesca Abela Tranter, and launched in Malta in 2000. It offers a physical meeting place where artists get together and communicate through the language of the body. The viewer is often taken to an unexpected, exciting and challenging journey into unfamiliar territories whilst the company represents international standards of artistic excellence, with a social and community touch. It Combines in addition to its performances, master classes, workshops, co- productions with global artists from various fields and dance genre to collaborate. The company delves into dance language which is explorative yet universal.
CDC reviews rapidly rose to become a significant contributor within the Maltese Dance and Theatre community. To date the company has performed internationally, touring to high profile theatres and festivals around Europe and North Africa. CDC reflects a variety of dance theatre approaches. The work explores and channels concepts through dance with a unique theatrical choreographic and directorial style, thus creating innovative work by using sources outside mainstream dance traditions. This communicates diversity within dance vocabulary to the evolving Maltese community.
CDC collaborates with all other performing arts genre, musicians, composers, actors and international choreographers of repute thus consolidating the company’s philosophy of the importance of diversified approach including the fusion of multi-media tools.
The company’s wide range of repertoire reaches audiences through tailored pieces. CDC forms part of “Dance on the Move’ a platform which offers regular master classes and workshops, and the annual “Dance Hybrid Malta” platform.
